Helmets, cheap or expensive?

That’s a common question that I’ve heard through the years.  I mean, if they are DOT certified, didn’t they pass the protection standards set forth by the government?

Yes.  They sure have.  Of course there is more to that.  Picture yourself riding in strong winds for hours at a time.  That is where the extra price in a helmet comes in very handy.  Comfort on a bike equals safety.  No distracting wind buffering to deal with, no excess weight to feel in your neck, the helmet just ‘fits’.

Some of the larger manufacturers put their helmets in wind tunnels as well as research the human head.  Not all shapes are the same.  Do yourself a favor, pay the extra $$ up front and have extra comfort down the road.

I’m currently using the Shoei RF-1200.  Amazingly quiet, comfortable fit, no wind buffeting.

battery. tender.

With a recent discussion from a co-worker looming in my mind I thought this would be the perfect topic for this time of year.  As winter hopefully begins to wind down, a lot of people will probably be getting their two wheeled machines out.  Hopefully yours will start.

If you haven’t invested the $30 or so for a battery tender you must clearly be mental.  If you need to jump start your motorcycle just remember, bikes aren’t cars.  So, unless you’re jump starting one bike by using another bike, don’t use too much juice.

It is possible to jump start a bike from a car.  If you do that however, keep the car turned off.  IT won’t kill the car battery by jumping the bike.
