About

Why does this site exist?

Short Answer:

This site was created to keep track of places I travel to.  Specifically, ride to on my motorcycle.

Long Answer:

I’ve always been into riding motorcycles.  It’s not a hobby for me, nor is it something I only do during the summer months.  To me, motorcycling is who I am.  It’s what I love to do.  It is passion.

This site was created as I started to plan out a cross country trip.  I reside in Ohio, the heart of it all, and traveled to Portland, Oregon in July 2015 for a wedding.  As more and more people started listening to my plans, the more they encouraged me to write about it.  Everything from planning, organizing and doing.  As it turns out, there are not a lot of motorcycle specific travel blogs from the perspective of a normal, time and money limited human being.

I hope that by posting on here, I encourage others to start planning adventures.  Hopefully I can help people along by posting about camping, weather, destinations, etc. from a perspective that is specific to the limitations of traveling by two wheels.

As the site grew, I decided to expand things.  In February of 2018, I re-designed the site and began adding videos.  Additionally, my traveling expanded and a second, sister site was created to focus more on traditional backpacking and recreational travel.  Check out http://www.open-air-travel.com for more information.
